Hello,
I’m Eric Andrus, a Digital Audio Student at Utah Valley University
I began my education in professional audio in Fall 2022 after spending many years interacting with audio and various other forms of digital media for most of my life as a hobby. I loved it all too much to think I’d want to do it for a living, but after trying out a semester in Digital Audio, I switched over full time.
I’ve been passionate about audio and digital media my entire life. With a mother who is a classically trained flutist with a master’s in music from SJSU and a father who’s worked as an RF engineer in the tech industry since the 80s, I ended up in a scenario where I learned to use Windows 95 before I could read properly on top of a healthy dose of musical exposure with a mother who played flute in the Utah Valley Symphony. Thanks to these backgrounds I was raised in, I figured Digital Audio would be a perfect fit for someone who’s always been interested in computers, music production, and recording as a hobby.
Educational Goals
While attending UVU I have been specializing in sound for games as well as studio recording and live sound, with a graduation date set for Spring of 2026. I’ve spent a number of hours learning various mic techniques, as well as the skills required to operate the SSL Duality along with our patch bay and outboard gear. Outside of the studio, my education has revolved around sound design for game and post production. At the moment, I am most experienced with Wwise and Unity for game sound integration and Pro Tools, Ableton, and FL Studio for mixing, tracking, and arrangement with Pro Tools being the DAW I’m most familiar with. Over the course of my final few semesters at UVU, I plan to refine my skills in Wwise, Pro Tools, and Ableton even more, as well as becoming proficient with other middleware such as FMOD. I am currently looking for opportunities to design sound for a game for my upcoming capstone in Fall of 2025.
Career Goals
I plan to break into the gaming industry to design sound for game studios and indie projects, or work on post-production sound as there is a generous amount of overlap in the skills required to design sound for games when compared to post sound. However, thanks to the wide variety of skills UVU has taught me over the course of my education I am open to many other opportunities, such as studio and recording work, or sound for film and TV. I love being in the studio and working on audio so much and I can’t think of a time where I was miserable working on sound, even during more stressful crunches for projects that left me exhausted day after day. I have an obsession for creating and recording cool things and would love to take any opportunity I can to learn more about creating sound for any project out there.
