Lil Texas - PLANET TEXCORE Tour
@ Area 51 - Las Vegas, Nevada - January 20th 2024
Lil Texas is an artist I’ve recently grown to like, however I would say they’re an acquired taste. They specialize in sounds in EDM that rely on heavy bass kicks, and very screechy synths. The subgenres that Lil Texas specializes in are Hardstyle, Rawstyle, and Extratone. His sets run at a minimum of 200 BPM and are nothing short of a workout to keep up with.
His set at Area 51 is no exception. The timing of his show allowed me to sneak away to Las Vegas for a weekend and be back by Monday. I’d never been to Area 51 before, and I had only previously known it as sort of a tourist destination featuring Omega Mart, which resembles a sort of cartoon universe grocery store. Tucked away in the back however, is a club space with curved walls made to allow graphics to be projected all along the perimeter of the room. The stage is quite small, however the space was much more pleasant than I thought. The audio wasn’t too loud even if I took my earplugs out, which is rare for any music venue for me personally (though I did keep my plugs in for the whole show anyways). Lil Texas killed it, and I definitely slept well that night after all the jumping and fist pumping I had to do to keep up with the 200+ BPM tempo! A great event, and I feel like it’s worth mentioning again that I was so pleasantly surprised how decent of a venue Area 51 turned out to be given my low expectations.
